Cellular Automata Traffic Analysis of Simple Road Networks

This project aims to model traffic networks using cellular automata to gain an understanding of how differing populations and intersections impact the overall efficiency. The project will be developed in stages, starting with the fundamental ruleset and building in complexity to be customisable so as to model real road networks. Data from these stages will be collected and analysed as a tool to optimise the networks. The research component will be the development of the model utilising the methods used by others in this same field.

Jamie Keegan-Treloar is mathematics student with a keen interest in applied problem solving. In 2018, Jamie created a system for modelling traffic intersections in an attempt to optimise intersection selection. Through his three years at Flinders University, Jamie developed his skills in problem solving, programming, data analysis and increased his general knowledge base. He aims to pursue his interest in traffic optimisation, both at university and outside in the related industry.
