AMSIConnect is the annual national conference for undergraduate students participating in the AMSI Summer Research Scholarships program.
Held over two-and-a-half days in Melbourne each February, AMSIConnect brings together talented students from across Australia to present their summer research projects, develop their science communication skills, explore career pathways and connect with peers, supervisors and researchers.
AMSIConnect is also open to students completing other summer research programs, providing a unique platform to share ideas, collaborate and celebrate research alongside AMSI Scholars. Registrations open 24 October.
Academic supervisors are invited to attend to support their students and chair sessions.
Note: Full participation at AMSIConnect is compulsory for AMSI Summer Research Scholars as a condition of the scholarship.
Each student will be allocated 20 minutes in the conference program and should prepare a 15-minute presentation of their research. The remaining five minutes are for the chair to introduce the speaker, a short question-and-answer session and presentation changeover time. This is a highly valuable exercise, which provides a platform to practise presenting within a professional conference capacity.
If you’re unsure about what content is appropriate for your presentation, speak to your academic supervisor about how to structure and convey your research in a professional and engaging capacity.
A prize is awarded each year to the best presenter(s) as voted by the audience.

AMSIConnect provides students with an opportunity to network, engage in debate and conversation, and delve deeper into the research performed over the summer.
Outside of academic pursuits, the AMSIConnect program includes icebreakers and social events, guest presentations providing insights into life as a PhD student and life as a researcher, as well as a careers session.
Travel and Accommodation is provided for AMSI Summer Research Scholarship recipients (who reside outside of Melbourne) to attend AMSIConnect in Melbourne, Victoria.
AMSI will coordinate, book and pay for return economy airfares to Melbourne for interstate scholars completing their project at a university outside of Victoria, or return train travel for scholars living in regional Victoria. Interstate and regional scholars will stay at an on-campus student college at the University of Melbourne.
On acceptance into the SRS program, scholars will be asked to complete a form and provide key information for AMSI to coordinate travel and accommodation bookings, including accessibility and dietary requirements.
Note: SRS students will be responsible for any additional costs associated with changing travel arrangements after booking confirmation is provide by AMSI.
